Gonzaga Dormitory
Anyong Haseyo!! I start Korean Language class today guys!!!
This post is dedicated to the dormitory you will be staying at if you were to come to Sogang University. Gonzaga is the new dormitory that was built not too long ago, not sure of the year. Here are a few things you need to know about Gonzaga.
So, Gonzaga costs approximately $1,600-$1,800 for about 4 months. It depends how much the dollar is going for nowadays. This includes breakfast and dinner. You are on your own for lunch, but there are a lot of great shops to eat around Sogang. Breakfast is from 7:30am-9:00am and extended to 9:30am on Saturdays. The website and the information you get states there is no breakfast and dinner on Sunday, but that's wrong!!!!! Apparently there is breakfast and dinner!!! You may want to get there early because the lines tends to get bigger later on.
*Keep in mind that Gonzaga has specific days and times in which students can check-into the dorms. This year for Spring 2011, it was starting February 25 - February 28 from 9:00am to 5:00pm. Make your travel arrangements around the check-in dates which will be given to you in the Incoming Exchange Student Handbook.*
The foods isn't high quality delicious food, but its okay. They have 2 types of foods that they will serve, Korean and the "supposedly western food." They call it "western food," but it really isn't. For breakfast it's mostly just cereal, salad, and some type of fruit. The Korean breakfast will always have kimchi, rice, some type of meat with sauce, soup, and like a side dish of something.
Here is a very important thing you need to know and that I will clarify. It took a while to understand curfew because we kept getting mixed answers from everyone!! Yes!! You heard right, there is curfew at Gonzaga Hall. Curfew if from 12:00am-5:00am Sunday- Thursday and 1:00am-5:00am on Fridays and Saturdays. Don't start losing you mind yet, this is the trick. Technically there is curfew, but then there isn't any. You are allowed to come in during curfew hours one time. For example, you left the dorm at 8pm and decide to get back at 3:00am. You missed curfew, but it doesn't matter. You are allowed to come in late once within the curfew time, but you have to stay!! You can't come home at 3am and then leave the dorm ten minutes later and come back at 4:30am or something like that. If you come late you are okay, but you have to stay in the dorm.
During curfew hours, the doors to enter into Gonzaga are closed. Well, how do I get in? I am allowed to come in late during curfew once right? Gonzaga had installed this fingerprint thing in which you will use your fingerprint to get into Gonzaga during he curfew. You will register your fingerprint during the first week, so pay attention to when the office will be registering fingerprints. This semester it started on March 2nd from 1:00am-11:00pm so no excuses on why you didn't register your fingerprint.
In Gonzaga, everything is monitored through the ID card you will be getting. You have to tap your card to go in and out of Gonzaga every time. It tracks every time you come in and out of Gonzaga to the second and there are cameras too!! It's very important to carry your ID everywhere.
Here are some pics of the laundry room which is open 24/7!!! Yay!!! A quick tip, don't do laundry on weekends!!! That's when it's super busy!!!
This is inside of Gonzaga. This is the 8th floor. Every floor will have like a "mini lounge" that has hot and cold water and a communal fridge.
