WOORI BANK ATMS

MOST ATM MACHINES, INCLUDING WOORI BANK, HAVE A BUTTON YOU CAN PRESS FOR ENGLISH. ONCE IN A WHILE YOU WILL ENCOUNTER ATM MACHINES THAT DON'T GIVE YOU THE OPTION FOR "DOMESTIC CARD: ENGLISH," WHICH IS WHAT YOU WANT TO PRESS IN ORDER TO ACCES YOUR KOREAN BANK ACCOUNT IN ENGLISH. IT TOOK ME A WHILE TO FIGURE OUT HOW TO USE ATM MACHINES IN KOREAN, BUT IT IS SOMETIMES FASTER. IT'S GOOD TO KNOW WHAT TO PRESS IN THE CASE THAT ENGLISH IS NOT AVAILABLE. HERE IS MY ATTEMPT TO TEACH YOU HOW TO MASTER THE WOORI BANK ATM MACHINES.

*YOU WILL MOST LIKELY END UP WITH A WOORI BANK ACCOUNT BECAUSE IT IS IN SCHOOL AND I AM PRETTY SURE IT'S THE ONLY BANK THAT WILL BE WILLING TO OPEN AN ACCOUNT FOR YOU RIGHT AWAY WITHOUT YOUR ALIEN REGISTRATION CARD. I BELIEVE THE SCHOOL ARRANGES IT FOR YOU BECAUSE WHEN MY BUDDY TOOK ME, I SAW THEM TAKE OUT THIS BIG FOLDER WITH LIKE ACCEPTANCE LETTERS AND A BIG LIST OF INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS' NAMES.*

THE MOST ACCESSIBLE WOORI ATM MACHINE IS IN GONZAGA DORMITORY. WHEN I FIRST STARTED USING IT, ENGLISH WAS AN OPTION, BUT FOR SOME REASON, IT DIDN'T WORK FOR ME. WHILE TAKING PHOTOS, TURNS OUT THAT IT STARTED WORKING AGAIN, BUT I THINK I SHOULD STILL POST UP MY MINI WOORI BANK TUTORIAL IN THE CASE YOU HAVE TO USE ANOTHER ATM MACHINE SOMEWHERE ELSE.

1. THIS IS THE ATM MACHINE ALONG WITH THE MAIN SCREEN.

Photobucket

Photobucket

2. ON THE MAIN SCREEN ON YOUR BOTTOM RIGHT SIDE YOU WILL SEE THE ENGLISH BUTTON.

Photobucket

3. After you press the English button, you will see the following.

4. CLICK ON "DOMESTIC CARD ENGLISH" AND THEN YOU WILL BE PROMPTED WITH THE FOLLOWING.

HERE IS THE KOREAN EQUIVALENT OF THAT. TRY AND REMEMBER WHAT THE KOREAN WORDS MEAN, THEY COULD COME IN HANDY. YOU DON'T NEED TO BE ABLE TO READ IT, JUST RECOGNIZE WHAT THE KOREAN MEANS.

Photobucket

5. CHOOSE WHATEVER YOU NEED FROM THE SCREEN. EX: WITHDRAWAL. THEN YOU WILL BE PROMPTED TO ENTER YOUR PIN.

Photobucket

Photobucket

6. THEN CHOOSE HOW MUCH MONEY YOU WANT.

Photobucket

Photobucket
*KOREAN VERSION* BE CAREFUL WITH THE KOREAN SCREEN. FOR EXAMPLE LETS TAKE THE FIRST DENOMINATION. IT SAYS 1만원. THAT ACTUALLY MEANS 10,000원(WON). WHATEVER NUMBER IT SHOWS, MULTIPLY IT BY 10,000. I TOOK IT AS BEING 1,000 WON AND WHEN I WAnTED TO TAKE OUT 50,000 WON, I ENDED UP TAKING 500,000 WON!!!! I WAS SO SHOCKED!!!

GONZAGA NEWS

GONZAGA HAS THREE DIFFERENT WAYS OF INFORMING US OF ANYTHING GOING ON IN GONZAGA OR HAVING TO DO WITH GONZAGA.

1. BULLETIN BOARD ON THE FIRST FLOOR NEXT TO THE STUDENT SUPERVISOR'S OFFICE

Photobucket

2. BULLETIN BOARDS ON EACH FLOOR NEXT TO THE ELEVATORS

Photobucket

3. THE INSIDE OF THE ELEVATOR

THERE IS A SMALL TV INSIDE THE ELEVATORS THAT ROUTINELY TELL YOU IMPORTANT INFORMATION AND THERE WILL SOMETIMES BE FLYERS TAPED TO THE WALLS OF THE ELEVATORS.

Photobucket

Photobucket

YOU MAY ALSO WANT TO CHECK THE REFRIGERATOR FOR SOME NEWS ON YOUR FLOOR. THEY DON'T ALWAYS HAVE FLYERS TAPED TO THEM, BUT THEY SOMETIME WILL. GONZAGA NORMALLY WILL PUT A FLYER ON THE BULLETIN LETTING YOU FLOOR KNOW WHEN THE REFRIGERATOR WILL BE CLEANED AND TO MAKE SURE YOU TAKE OUT YOUR STUFF WHILE THEY CLEAN IT. IF YOU MISS THE MEMO, YOUR STUFF WILL BE THROWN OUT IF THEY ARE LEFT IN THE FRIDGE DURING CLEAN UP.

ALWAYS REMEMBER, GONZAGA IS WATCHING YOU!!!!!!!

Photobucket

TO END MY POST ON A RANDOM NOTE, HERE ARE PICTURES OF THE KEY PAD ON YOUR DORM ROOM DOOR. IF YOU FORGET YOUR ID CARD IN YOUR ROOM, YOU CAN ALSO GO INTO YOUR ROOM BY PUTTING IN YOUR CODE. THE CODE WILL BE GIVEN TO YOU WHEN YOU RECEIVE YOUR GONZAGA ID CARD. I HAD NO IDEA OF THIS UNTIL AFTER A MONTH OF BEING IN GONZAGA. NOW I ONLY USE THE KEY PAD TO GO INTO MY ROOM. ALL YOU NEED TO DO IS SLIDE UP THE RECTANGULAR THING ON TOP OF YOUR DOOR KNOB.

Washing Machines

Today I had a nice nap and I studied, so I needed a break. I thought to myself it was time to wash my sheets and blankets again, so I went down to B1 (Basement) to do some laundry. While in the laundry room, I thought back to when I first came to Gonzaga. I have always lived a pretty sheltered life, which meant that at age 20 I didn't know how to do laundry. T_T
What was worse was that all the directions were in Korean and I was overwhelmed by the English translation. If it wasn't for my friend, I would have never been able to do my laundry alone. I can now proudly say I can do laundry, well, at least in Gonzaga I can!!!!

So, because of this I thought I should do a little post on how to use the Gonzaga Dormitory Laundry Room and a little "etiquette" you should be aware of.

*I personally recommend that you go to Grand Mart to go buy Detergent, Fabric Softener, etc. In the long un it ill be cheaper than buying the little packets of detergent in B1 next to the Coin Machine. Grand Mart always has sales so you will be able to find cheap deals on softener and detergent. If you need to know how to get to Grand Mart, refer to my previous post on Grand Mart.*

So first off, you need to have 500 Won coins to do your laundry. If you don't have them, don't worry, there is a Coin Changer in B1 next to the Male Laundry Room. The only thing is that the Coin Machine will only accept 1,000 Won bills in order to exchange it for coins.

LETS PROCEED TO THE LAUNDRY ROOM NOW. THIS IS HOW THE INSIDE OF THE LAUNDRY MACHINE LOOKS LIKE.

Photobucket

FROM WHAT I UNDERSTOOD WHEN I WENT TO GRAND MART, THERE ARE 2 TYPES OF DETERGENT. IT DEPENDS ON HOW THE LAUNDRY MACHINE IS. I WAS TOLD TO USE THE ONE BELOW. THERE IS ONE LIKE IT IN BLUE. DON'T REALLY KNOW THE DIFFERENCE, BUT WHAT I HAVE BEEN USING SEEMS TO WORK.

ON THE TOP OF THE MACHINE, TO THE RIGHT, YOU WILL SEE THE COIN THING WHERE YOU INSERT THE COINS. ON YOUR LEFT WILL BE WHERE YOU DISPENSE YOUR DETERGENT, FABRIC SOFTENER, ETC.
AS YOU CAN SEE BELOW, THE TOP IS FOR DETERGENT AND THE BOTTOM FOR SOFTENER. WHERE IT SAYS DO NOT USE, WHEN YOU OPEN THE LID, IT WILL SAY BLEACH, BUT DON'T PUT ANYTHING IN THERE. IF YOU HAVE SOME TYPE OF BLEACH FOR YOUR WHITE CLOTHES, PUT IT IN THE DETERGENT SIDE.

Photobucket

Photobucket

Photobucket

ON THE TOP OF THE MACHINE YOU WILL ALSO SEE SOME BUTTONS. THEY INDICATE "COLORS,"BRIGHT COLORS," AND "WHITES," ETC.

Photobucket

THERE WILL ALSO BE SIGN ON THE WALL THAT EXPLAIN HOW TO US ETHE MACHINES. THEY ARE IN ENGLISH AND KOREAN. DON'T GET TO OVERWHELMED BY ALL THE KOREAN ON THE WALL AND NOT NOTICE THAT THERE WAS AN ENGLISH TRANSLATION LIKE I DID. I CAN'T BELIEVE I DIDN'T EVEN NOTICE THE ENGLISH!!!!!

Photobucket

Photobucket

Photobucket

Photobucket

OKAY, NOW THAT I HAVE SHOWED YOU WHAT TO EXPECT, HERE IS MY ATTEMPT TO TEACH YOU HOW TO DO LAUNDRY. YOU MIGHT THINK, "I ALREADY NOW HOW TO DO LAUNDRY!!! HOW CAN YOU NOT KNOW???" IF SO THEN JUST STOP READING THIS. I AM GOING OVER THIS BECAUSE I DIDN'T KNOW HOW TO DO LAUNDRY AND I WAS EMBARRASSED AT THE FACT THAT I WAS 20 AND HAD NO CLUE HOW TO DO LAUNDRY, YET ALONE USING KOREAN MACHINES. I WAS LUCKY THAT I HAD MY FRIEND WITH ME AND SHE TAUGHT ME. YOU MAY BE COMING TO SOGANG ALONE AND IT CAN BE EMBARRASSING TO ASK FOR HELP ON SOMETHING SO SIMPLE.

I HAD HEARD FROM PEOPLE THAT YOU SHOULD WASH YOUR COLORS, WHITES, AND DARKS SEPARATELY. I DID THAT AT SOGANG FOR A WHILE, BUT IT WAS ANNOYING TO BE TAKING CARE OF 3 MACHINES. I WAS EVENTUALLY ENLIGHTENED BY A FRIEND AND WAS TAUGHT THAT YOU CAN JUST PUT YOUR COLORS AND DARKS TOGETHER.
SO GO AHEAD AND PUT THE DARK AND COLORS IN THE MACHINE. PUT IN YOUR FABRIC SOFTENER AND DETERGENT INTO THE MACHINE. THEN PUT YOUR 2 500 WON COINS INTO THE COIN SLOT. PRESS THE COIN SLOT FORWARD. YOU WILL THEN HAVE TO PRESS ONE OF THE BUTTONS. PUSH THE ONE THAT SAYS "COLORS." IT WILL TAKE APPROXIMATELY 45 MINUTES FOR THE CLOTHES TO WASH. IT'S AS SIMPLE AS THAT

YOU REPEAT THE SAME PROCESS FOR YOUR WHITES. I USE SOMETHING DIFFERENT FOR MY WHITES THOUGH. NOT REALLY SURE WHAT IT'S CALLED OR IS. ALL I KNOW IS THAT IT KEEPS YOUR WHITES WHITE. IT WAS RECOMMENDED BY THE NICE KOREAN LADY AT GRAND MART. YOU MAY WANT TO BUY ONE OF THESE.

Photobucket

I HOPE THIS HELPED. IT TOOK ME A WHILE TO FIGURE OUT WHAT DETERGENT TO USE BECAUSE I DIDN'T KNOW KOREAN AND I WAS SCARED OF BUYING THE RIGHT THING. I WAS LUCKY THAT MY FRIEND KNEW A BIT OF KOREAN, SO SHE WENT WITH ME AND WE SPOKE TO A NICE KOREAN LADY AT GRAND MART THAT TOLD US WHAT TO USE. IF YOU ARE SHY LIKE ME OR SCARED OF ASKING FOR HELP, USE WHAT I USE. GUIDE YOURSELF BY MY PICTURES. I GUARANTEE IT WILL WORK AND IT WILL NOT RUIN YOUR PRECIOUS CLOTHES.

TO END MY POST, HERE IS A LITTLE LAUNDRY ROOM "ETIQUETTE." THE LAUNDRY ROOM IS USUALLY REALLY BUSY ON SATURDAY AND SUNDAY. EXPECT A LOT OF GIRLS SWARMING INTO THE LAUNDRY ROOM TRYING TO GET A MACHINE. ONE THING YOU SHOULD KNOW IS THAT IF YOU AREN'T KEEPING TABS ON YOUR MACHINE, IF THE MACHINE IS DONE WASHING YOUR CLOTHES AND YOU AREN'T THERE TO GET YOUR CLOTHES OUT, SOMEONE ELSE WILL!!!!! DO NOT BE ALARMED OR MAD WHEN YOU GO TO THE LAUNDRY ROOM TO PICK UP YOUR CLOTHES AND YOU FIND THAT THEY ARE BEING TAKEN OUT BY SOMEONE ELSE OR THEY ARE STACKED EITHER ON TOP OF THE MACHINE OR THE TABLE. THE LAUNDRY ROOM CAN BECOME VERY BUSY AND PEOPLE ARE ON A SCHEDULE. I USED TO WAIT UP TO LIKE 15 MINUTES WAITING FOR THE PERSON TO COME GET THERE STUFF. I DIDN'T WANT TO BE RUDE AND JUST TAKE OUT THEIR COTHES. I WAS SO WRONG!!!!! WHILE I WAITED ONCE, SOME GIRL CAME IN AND JUST TOOK OUT THE STUFF INSIDE THE MACHINE I WAS WAITING FOR AND PUT IT ON TOP OF THE MACHINE. I WAS IN UTTER SHOCK THAT I DIDN'T EVEN PROTEST AT THE FACT THAT THIS GIRL BASICALLY CUT IN FRONT OF ME. I WAS ONLY TRYING TO BE POLITE, BUT THAT WON'T GET YOU ANYWHERE IN THE LAUNDRY ROOM. IF A MACHINE IS AT 0 MINUTES AND THERE ARE WET CLOTHES INSIDE, TAKE THEM OUT AND PUT THEM ON TOP OF THE MACHINE AND PROCEED TO USE THE MACHINE. DON'T WORRY ABOUT BEING POLITE. EVERYONE IS USED TO IT SO PEOPLE DON' TAKE OFFENSE AT THE FACT THAT YOU GRABBED THEIR CLOTHES AND PUT THEM SOMEWHERE ELSE. THAT'S JUST HOW THE SYSTEM AT GONZAGA WORKS. ^_^

Gonzaga Hall Webpage 101

A lot of people had forgotten that you have an online account with Gonzaga Hall through their website. A lot of my friends didn't even know how to check how many merit and demerit points they had how to apply for staying out, etc. Here is a quick walk-through of things you should know about your Gonzaga Hall account.

1. So head over to the GONZAGA HALLwebsite.

How to check your Mid-Term and Final Grades

How can you not know how to check your Mid-Term and Final gRades right????? This may sound pretty dumb, but it took me 2 months to figure it out. I kept hearing that you can check your grades through the Saint Portal and I just simply couldn't figure it out. I felt really dumb for not being able to do such a simple task. Imagine the shock when it took me about 1 minute to access my final Mid-Term grade. Hopefully this post will help you and you can teach others how to access their grades.

When I took my Mid-Terms, it was an agonizing 1 week of waiting for the results. Once I knew the results, I was confused. "Well what does this mean??? Is the Professor going to curve the grades!! OMG!!!! What am I gonna do???? What's my final score???" So before you go suicidal like I did, take a a deep breath and go to your Saint Portal. take a look at you grades and if you have any questions and concerns, start e-mailing your professors or do whatever it is you have to do. Many people were freaking out about their grades and bombarded the professors with e-mails explaining why their grades were low and if he was going to curve, blah blah blah. I was about ready to do that, but I was scared to leave a bad impression with the professor so I opted to wait after I heard professors were going to curve and that I could access my final grades online. To my shock, I did well. Yay!!!! ^_^

Here is what you will do step by step okay...

1. Go to Saint Portal.

Photobucket

2. GO TO "ACADEMY MANAGEMENT ON YOUR TOP LEFT SIDE OF THE PAGE.

Photobucket

3. THEN CLICK ON "GPA/SEMESTER," WHICH IS UNDER "COURSE/GRADE."

Photobucket

4. LASTLY, JUST TAKE A PEEK AND YOU WILL SEE YOUR MID-TERM AND YOUR FINAL GRADE. GOOD LUCK!! ^_^

Photobucket

On a last note, here are what the grades mean.

A+, B+, C+, etc: Means the same
A0, B0, C0, etc: Solid A, B, C, etc.
A-, B-, C-, etc: Means the same

I guess all you needed to know was what the 0 meant.
